THE LEGEND OF SANGKURIANG FROM INDONESIA

Sangkuriang is an ancient legend of the Sundanese tribe. The existence of this legend is proven by the writings of Resi Sunda, Bujangga Manik in the 16th century when visiting the Patenggang hill which he called the place where Sangkuriang tried to dam the Citarum river.

The legend of Sangkuriang originated from a pair of gods and goddesses who were banished from fantasy for wrongdoing. The God then transformed into a Dog named Si Tumang and the Goddess transformed into a pig named Wayung Hyang. One day, a king named Sumbing Perbanga carried out a small water discharge in the forest and his urine was collected in coconut shells. Wayung Hyang then drank the urine and became pregnant. After that, Prabu Sumbing saw that there was a pig and then he crossed the arrow, it turned out that the pig that was panned turned into a beautiful woman. The prabu also married Wayung Hyang and was blessed with a beautiful girl named Dayang Sumbi.

The beauty of Dayang Sumbi made the princes fight over it so that Dayang Sumbi 'burnout' and decided to 'heal' into the forest with a dog named Tumang. Dayang Sumbi then weaved but the loom fell to the ground, because of the 'mager' he finally said, whoever picked up the thing would be her husband and whoever picked it up would be her sister. It turned out that the one who picked up the object was Si Tumang, so they got married but on the night of the full moon, Si Tumang returned to his original 'good looking' form. Dayang Sumbi was amazed and they continued to exercise physically last night.

From the results of their romance, a child named Sangkuriang was born. One day, Sangkuriang hunts with the Tumang and they see that there is a pig running, Sangkuriang tells Tumang to catch it but Tumang hesitates because he knows that the pig is Wayung Hyang, Sangkuriang's grandmother. At the same time, Sangkuriang aimed at his arrow and hit the Tumang. To cleanse the sins of his deeds, Sangkuriang took the heart of the Tumang and gave it to his mother to cook. Seeing that her 'husband" was not going back and forth, Dayang Sumbi nagged Sangkuriang to say where Si Tumang was. Sangkuriang also confessed so That Dayang Sumbi was angry and threw a rice centong on Sangkuriang's head. Sangkuriang also ran away and experienced amnesia like the main character of a local soap opera.

Dayang Sumbi returned to 'burnout' because of the incident and since then he has been doing tirakat only eating vegetables. It was because of the diet that she became beautiful and youthful. On the other hand, Sangkuriang went around the world and took care of various universities. Unexpectedly, because it was too far around the extremely round earth, he returned to his hometown.

The amnesiac Sangkuriang falls in love with the ageless Dayang Sumbi. But Dayang sumbi knew that the young man was Sangkuriang, so he asked Sangkuriang to dam the Citarum river to create a lake and it had to be completed in one day.

Sangkuriang agreed. He immediately cast Ajian Rempug Galunggung to summon jurig troops to complete the megaproject. On the other hand, Dayang Sumbi outsmarted by pounding grain on the pestle and lighting a bonfire. The chicken also got up and crowed. The jurigs who helped Sangkuriang escaped all.

Sangkuriang, who was enraged, then broke into the dam and threw a giant stone that would eventually turn into Mount Manglayang. He kicked the finished boat and turned into Mount Tangkuban Perahu.

Sangkuriang then chased Dayang Sumbi. The frightened Dayang Sumbi was turned into a Jaksi Flower by Hyang Dewata. Sangkuriang continued to look for Dayang Sumbi to Ujung Berung where he strayed into the isekai.

The author of the sangkuriang story is unknown. But what we know for sure, he was a very imaginative poet.
